Zurich's Children Opera Orchestra Makes Its Debut

In a remarkable fusion of pedagogy and artistry, Zurich's Opernhaus unveils its Kinderopernorchester this May—an ensemble of 80 children aged 8 to 15 performing excerpts from Carmen and Hänsel und Gretel. The project, developed with 35 local music schools and musicians from the Oper Zürich orchestra, transcends typical youth programs by immersing participants in professional repertoire and collaborative rehearsals.

Led by General Music Director Gianandrea Noseda and Studienleiterin Ann-Katrin Stöcker, the initiative offers a rare glimpse into how disciplined musical training cultivates both technical skill and communal responsibility. The debut coincides with Zurich's annual Opernhaus für alle festival, democratizing opera through free public performances.
