Villa Médicis Unveils Its Newest Cohort of Artists and Filmmakers

The Académie de France à Rome – Villa Médicis, a beacon of artistic patronage since the 17th century, opens its gardens and studios to a new generation of international creators this September. The 2026-2027 cohort includes Franco-Iranian filmmaker Zar Amir Ebrahimi on the film festival jury and multidisciplinary artists like Jean Claracq (visual arts) and Vanasay Khamphommala (choreography), reflecting the institution's commitment to cross-cultural dialogue.

Concurrent with the residency announcements, the sixth edition of the Villa's film festival (16-20 September) presents over 40 screenings at the intersection of cinema and contemporary art, including open-air projections within the historic grounds. The programming continues the Academy's tradition of fostering unconventional encounters between disciplines, from Tunisian-French artist Aïcha Snoussi's plastic arts research to Lithuanian dancer Lora Juodkaite's collaborative performance with Paris' Chaillot company.
