Strauss and Brahms Reimagined: Noseda and Zurich Opera House Orchestra Release New Double Albums

Explore the late-Romantic and symphonic masterpieces captured in two new recordings under Gianandrea Noseda's direction.
June 23, 2026

Gianandrea Noseda, the General Music Director of the Zurich Opera House, has once again demonstrated his artistic versatility with the release of two new double albums featuring the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House. The recordings, set to release on June 25, 2026, showcase the orchestra's mastery of both the late-Romantic sound world of Richard Strauss and the symphonic brilliance of Johannes Brahms.

The first album brings together Strauss's tone poems Don Quixote, Ein Heldenleben, and Macbeth, alongside the Four Symphonic Interludes from Intermezzo. These works, composed between the 1880s and 1890s, highlight Strauss's unparalleled ability to weave narrative into music. Under Noseda's direction, the orchestra captures the full spectrum of color and emotion in these pieces, offering listeners a fresh perspective on Strauss's oeuvre.

The second album features Brahms's four symphonies, recorded live during recent performances. These recordings not only document the close artistic partnership between Noseda and the orchestra but also preserve a significant chapter in their shared musical journey. Noseda's ability to navigate both operatic and symphonic repertoires with equal finesse is evident in these interpretations, which demand precision, flexibility, and a collective imagination from the musicians.

"Richard Strauss and Johannes Brahms represent two very different musical worlds," Noseda reflects. "Their music truly comes to life only when an orchestra listens, breathes, and thinks as one." These recordings are a testament to that unity, offering audiences a chance to experience the depth and breadth of the Zurich Opera House Orchestra's artistry.

The albums will be available through the Zurich Opera House webshop and major streaming platforms, with international retail availability from mid-August 2026. For classical music enthusiasts and newcomers alike, these recordings are a must-listen, bridging the gap between two monumental composers and their enduring legacies.
